we had to make a "trend book" for school. Trends (ongoing developments in society and

what that leads to) based on research in Amsterdam and Berlin. This is what it turned

out to look like. I'm quite pleased with the layout actually

So i'm back from Berlin! 5 days of trend watching, what a whirlwind off information/visuals/
impressions/etc. I've made 450 images so i'll be posting them later on!

First picture is a dress with Zero Waste. Usually when making a dress, there's 15% waste, this dresses uses 100% of the material = Zero Waste (google it if you're interested :) )

Green Day. Sustainability Lecture Day @ World Fashion Centre Amsterdam

Our school organized a special day with the theme: Sustainability. Various speakers from all over the world came to talk about how fashion can be more sustainable than it is today. The funny thing is that nowadays, everyone talks about it but in the end we still shop at H&M, Zara, Topshop, Primark, etc. The end result of that is a massive amount of fabric (clothing) that goes to waste. Look at the amount of clothes that you have in your closet. Way more than you actually need ofcourse, but in the end, even though you give your clothing to charity, that stuff doesn't always sell either, hence: a shit load clothing with no place to go.

The "Green Day" organized a swap shop as well and I got a golden blouse and a beautiful creme/gold jacket by Amsterdam Fashion Institute's own label: Individuals.

new project: Style Book

So we have a new project called Style Book. We had a draw were we got the theme History, Ethnic/Folkloric and Style Icon. I got Ethnic. We were divided into groups and had to start of with a mind map. Next up were two collages based on the mind map.

I chose the Inuit because I know nothing about them. Obviously we're not allowed to use the stereotype elements such as the iglo, the fur booties and attire, etc. First off is creating a Research book and the final product should be a small book containing 3 different themes for the Inuit 'style' a contemporary take on their style that is. We also have to create it for a fictional client which could be a museum, a magazine or a brand.

Now, which client do you think is the best one. I was thinking either a brand (which one suits the style the best..?), to help them style a new line for winter 10/11 or a magazine editorial for this winter. If I choose the last one, the question is, which magazine?

my life as a fashion student

Since I'm a Fashion&Branding student, I thought it might be interesting to see some of stuff i've been doing for school these past six weeks. We've worked on a project called "Inspiration Book". Lessons like drawing, writing, inspirational lectures and a workshop on how to work on your inspiration book. The pictures are ones of the process. I'll make some pictures of the final product soon! I got a 7! Here in the Netherlands we have a grading system which is from 1 to 10, 10 being the highest. Since it was the first project and they rarely give high grades, I've done quite a good job I guess.
